Healthcare is a Right

CAMA was retained to give voice to Dr. Suzanne Lagarde’s mantra “Healthcare is a Right.” Using an evidence-based healthcare design approach, the experiential design philosophy known as “Eudaimonia” was used for this newly expanded campus to entice all Fair Haveners to access care at 390 Grand Avenue.   The design is intended to experientially connect all in the multi-cultural community to their right to healthcare. The arrival sequence is inviting and meets each individual where they are in their medical journey.  The interior sensory articulation is meant to engage and enrich the experience for each patient, family and staff member. The design provides a safe environment in which to share vital health information that extends beyond treating injury and disease and promotes overall wellbeing allowing patients to flourish. Through color, art and wayfinding the interior experience is amplified.  The palette and subject matter were inspired by multicultural explorations.  It was noted that sunrises in Fair Haven, Connecticut, USA; County Clare, Ireland; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Damascus, Syria were indiscernible from one another.  CAMA contracted artists Silvia Lopez Chavez, Alison Berry, Annie Chittenden, Henry Domke, Valerie Richardson, Deb Quinn-Munson, Suzanne Siegel and Steven Plaziak to capture Fair Haven’s vibrant energy.
